Message from Our Patron Dr. Vijay Kelkar

The Energy world has undergone multifold changes in the last fifty years and growing dynamism of the emerging economies including India means that global energy requirements will be even greater in the coming 50 years. Hitherto fossil fuels and coal has been the main constituent of the energy basket, but the resource abundance of fossil fuel and coal is vanishing. This coupled with increasing concerns about ecology and global warming makes it imperative that the new mantra will be the development of sustained and clear energy. Hence, it indeed augurs well that non-governmental organizations such as ERSAF are entering the arena to support much needed policy shift in India

Dr. Vijay Kelkar has been at the forefront of India's progress. He has played critical roles at various ministries and at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and has chaired many key committees. Dr. Kelkar was advisor to the Finance Minister in the rank of the Minister of State from august 2002 to September 2004. Prior to that, he was Executive Director for India at the IMF for 3 years. Dr. Kelkar has also been Finance Secretary, Chairman Tariff Commission and Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas. Dr. Kelkar has chaired many key reform bodies including the Task Force for Implementation of the Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management Act and the Task Forces on Direct and Indirect Taxes.
